ALOHA!! HAPPY HAPPY Wednesday :D
How are you?! How's your week going so far?! I'm posting from Oahu, Hawaii! WOOO WHOOO!! I was up early this morning running on a beach in North Shore mainly used by locals! It was AWESOME!! It felt like I owned the beach...lol! There were only 2 locals in sight, the waves were crashing right next to my feet, and the sound of the ocean and wind were music to my ears!! I know I live by the beach BUT I'm in Hawaii and what a FAB way to start my day :D Today's post are 3 tips for making running easier. Thought I'd do a quick post on running since that seems to be my theme this morning ;) New research shows that common stretches can actually make you a less efficient runner. Follow the following 3 fundamental tips to go faster and avoid injury! BRING IT ON!! 1. Don't overstretch before you start... Static stretching, holding a stretch for 30 seconds or longer, can hamper your performance when done immediately before a run. Why? Tight hamstrings can actually help you go faster. Your muscle tendons are like rubber bands; the shorter and less flexible they are, the quicker they snap back, speeding up your stride. Static stretching after training, however, can help you prepare for your next workout. So don't skip it post sweat session. 2. Do a dynamic warm-up... Moves like high-knee walking and lunges are excellent for preparing your body to run. These full-body movements "activate" your muscles (so your workout feels easier) without overstretching. 3. Don't neglect your knees and hips... Stiff hamstrings may help your running economy, but tight muscles in your hips and knees can throw off your alignment. So make sure to stretch those quads and hips regularly, just not within 30 minutes before a run. If you have ANY comments about this post, I'd luv to hear from you :) I won't be available to post this Friday because I'll be playing in the ocean all day! 1 of the things I'll be doing is swimming with SHARKS :D Yes...SHARKS!! I'm SOOO excited...lol!!! Because I won't be posting on Friday, I'll post on SATURDAY instead! I'll include pictures swimming with sharks!! I got this :D Have a FITastic day! SEE YOU back here on SATURDAY!!
